What We Do

We are dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history, and securing America’s future through better education for children. Below are examples of activities listed in our three main areas of projects.

Promoting Patriotism

  • Support of the local veterans and active military through providing supplies to the United Service Organizations, Inc. (USO) Center and veterans stand down events.
  • Support of Wreaths Across America and organization of the wreath laying ceremony
  • Present a flag (which was flown over the U.S. Capital) to veterans that are new homeowners as part of the Operation Coming Home program.
  • Donate hundreds of new books and toys to children of North Carolina National Guard families.
  • Participate in naturalization and U.S. flag retirement ceremonies

Collecting and packaging socks, hats, and toiletries for a veterans stand down event.

Supporting the local USO with supplies for our active military.

Historic Preservation

  • Mark graves of local American Revolutionary War Patriots
  • Support the National Society for Preservation of NSDAR buildings
  • Identify and index the names of veterans buried in local cemeteries

Education

  • Promote Constitution Week by supplying local schools with posters and educational materials
  • Participate in Bells Across America on September 17, to commemorate the signing of the United States Constitution
  • Sponsor DAR Good Citizens Award and Scholarship Contest for high school seniors
  • Support Crossnore Communities for Children
  • Present books to first-grade students at a local elementary school

The chapter gives a book entitled: “I am George Washington” to all first grade students at a local Elementary School. Our members dressed in period costumes and gave readings.

A chapter member created a video reading of the book “I am George Washington”. This video was used by teachers during remote learning.
