About Us

History

The Yates Mill Chapter, National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR or DAR), was started in the summer of 2004 by twelve members. These women wanted to have a chapter that would meet in the evenings with a fun, relaxed, and enjoyable atmosphere. The chapter members represent an active group that includes young mothers, career women, community volunteers, educators, and retirees with grandchildren. If your ancestor was a Patriot of the American Revolutionary War we invite you to come visit our group!

Historic Yates Mill

Our chapter name comes from the beautiful, historic park of Yates Mill located in Raleigh, North Carolina. Yates Mill was built in 1756, and served Wake County as a water-powered mill for more than 200 years. Of the 70 gristmills that once served Wake County, Yates Mill is the only one still in operating condition. More information is available at the Historic Yates Mill Park website.

Yates Mill County Park is a 174-acre historic site, 20-acre mill pond, and native wildlife refuge.

Our chapter recognizes outstanding high school students through the DAR Good Citizens Award and Scholarship Contest.

Meetings

Our chapter  meets in the evening during the months from January through May and September through December. A typical meeting includes social time, a guest speaker, and a business meeting. We also have special meetings featuring our Christmas social and May potluck.

We encourage anyone interested in joining DAR to attend one of our meetings to better understand the DAR organization and especially our chapter. Learn more about our chapter by going to the What We Do webpage (see menu at top of page).  Read about some of the things that we do throughout the year.

Please contact us for the meeting dates and location.
